Quick list of Siberian Husky health problems

Eye diseases are problematic in Siberians. The most serious is cataracts, which affects about 10% of the breed and often progresses to blindness by 3 years old.
The skin is another problem area in Siberian Huskies – chronic allergies cause itchiness and bacterial infections, and other diseases cause hair loss.
Other health issues in Siberian Huskies include hypothyroidism, heart disease, epilepsy, and laryngeal paralysis.
On a positive note, the orthopedic diseases that are so common in other breeds (such as hip dysplasia) are much less so in Siberian Huskies.

Preventing health problems

Some health problems are inherited. For example, if both parents of your Siberian Husky have certificates proving they were tested and cleared of hereditary eye diseases and hip dysplasia, your Siberian has less risk of developing those conditions.
Other health problems can be prevented, or partially prevented, by the ways you raise your dog. If you're serious about doing everything you can for your Siberian Husky, my best-selling book, 11 Things You Must Do Right To Keep Your Dog Healthy and Happy, shows you how to raise your Siberian Husky puppy (or adult dog) in all the right ways. It will help you be your dog's health care champion!
